UnisonSteadfast is one of the largest independent and medium-sized brokerage networks worldwide. They are always trying to grow their network through innovation. I helped them to transform their platform by creating a new onboarding experience for their knowledge management and member management modules.
The Challenge
The company had already thousands of insurance professionals on their platform. The platform helped its members in finding new business opportunities and matching people with complementary experience, enabling them to make international deals on a bigger scale.
The company had, however, some problems: long and very out-dated registration process for the members that could take up to two years. For example, an out-dated process of sharing knowledge was simply by updating PDF documents to a shared drive on the platform, lack of search facility for the people or information, lack of transparency - the members could not see the other members. No communication between parties on the platform - and there was no messaging or emailing facility.
Solution
On-boarding experience (Application process) & Membership management
Before, to become a Unison member, the company needed to fill in a complex application form, print it and send it via post. It was an inefficient process, took a long time, and required multiple people and institutions in different locations to be involved. Once the application was approved, a member to be, needed to sign the contract and, again, send via post.
My solution transformed this old process making it faster and much more efficient for both - users and unisonSteadfast staff.
I designed a digital application system which allowed users to login with a login and password. Applicants are no longer required to fill in the full form in one go. Their details entered into the system are now securely saved, while the users can log in and continue their application when it suits. The system enables attaching documents and signing of their contracts using DigiSign.
Paper documents are no longer needed and that all are processed electronically. Once the application submitted for review, the users still can log in to the system and track the current stage of their application.
The second part of the membership management module is a custom dashboard for the unisonStoadfast employees that enables them to manage new applications, existing members, users, permissions and the knowledge management module. Unison Employees can now view new applications, review them and make appropriate actions: ask for further documents, reject or approve applications.

Knowledge Management
Unison Stedfast previously-stored all the PDF documents on their platform, and the members could not upload them to the system by themselves, and not able to search or filter the information stored in the documents.
I designed a new Knowledge Management page which enables members to create fresh and valuable content with images or videos. Enabling the creation of tags and adding a description to a curated item, which helps the members to find content using the keywords. Other members can contribute to the content by adding new changes. User edits are now tracked in the content item history, which assures transparency and version-control.

Professional Network
This module enabled members to create their personal and company profile where they could describe their industry expertise and highlight what they are looking for. I designed a chatting facility in order to enable members to talk about business opportunities and collaborate on the platform.

The Result
www.unisonsteadfast.com The newly designed network is developed and released into the market with great success. The next phase will be to migrate the platform over to a blockchain solution where further designing will be required.
